Hey folks! It's been a while since I've checked in, and an even longer while since I've written about my writing. Truth be told, 2017 was a year full of challenges unlike any I've ever experienced before, not in their gravity but in their overall impact to my day-to-day life, and that of my family.
That being said, it's not like I haven't been productive to some degree. I assisted with the production of Street Masters from Blacklist Games (which I should be getting my copy of hopefully before the holidays!), I wrote a short story to add to a science-fiction anthology of an author friend of mine, I've launched Season Two of The NovelCast, and I've written the beats for the next three books I'll be penning. So while the amount of work I've completed is a far cry from what I know I'm capable of in a calendar year, it is still things I am proud of, and things I've never done before.
But enough about that, let's talk about the future.
I recognize that it is almost tradition for me to make New Year's Goals and then never keep them. I believe I've done that often enough since starting this website. But these are not goals for the year of 2018, these are simply goals for December, and ones I feel very confident I can commit to and see through to the end.
Write Two Books Before 01.01.2018
This probably looks like a loftier goal than it really is, partially because I bolded it and gave it its own font size and line. But truthfully I'm already well on my way to making this goal, and it isn't even December yet!
The two books I will be writing in December are the second Dreadful novella, so far untitled, and the fourth book in my space opera series, Astral Tides: The Shadows of Uhmakhet.
The beats for both of these stories are already completed, and have been covered and recovered multiple times this year. They are solid and promising and I am excited to write both of these. The main hurdle is simply location. My writing space has changed from my own office to a small corner of our living room, and it has been all too easy to let this become the primary excuse for not getting work done. But after writing for Blacklist Games and for another author's Sci-Fi anthology, I am eager to get back to my own worlds.
Concerning Astral Tides: Earlier this year I sent out a survey to my subscribers asking what they wanted to see me work on next. The options were the second Cybersaurus book, the fourth Astral Tides book, the next Dreadful book, or something entirely new.
Only four votes came back, with one for Cybersaurus, one for something new, and two for Dreadful.
While it breaks my heart to see Astral Tides not make the list with a single vote, I came to realize that I am not ready to abandon that story. At this point, it is my hope to finish it off, writing the last three books in the series and closing it off until I decide to revisit that world in the future. Plus, I already have the first third of The Shadows of Uhmakhet written, making the likelihood of completing both it and another Dreadful title - what my readers really want - that much more feasible.
So look for new book cover announcements and excerpts posted to Facebook in the coming weeks as these two projects approach their conclusions!
